Ongoing Event : Nutrition Class Group
Program Offered By Fitness Fusion 360
This program is an 8-week program. During
these 8 weeks, participants meet with a
Nutrition Manager Consultant three times -
one hour at the beginning of the program,
one hour during the program, and one hour at
the end of 12 weeks. Participants are asked
to keep a food log and an exercise log; they
learn how to analyze what they eat and
discover the number of calories they should
eat to achieve balance; they learn how to
budget their time and fit exercise into
their schedules; they learn ways to reduce
stress and why it is important to do so.
When participants have completed the 8
weeks, they will posses the tools needed to
be successful in long-term "fat" loss and
health. The program also includes three
individual consultations: The first
individual consultation is after the first
group meeting. This meeting concentrates on
individualizing the participants exercise
program; discussing the participant's goals
and objectives; and teaching the participant
how to use the diet analysis software. The
second individual consultation occurs after
the fourth group meeting. This consultation
focuses on how the participant is doing. The
third individual consultation occurs at week
12 (4 weeks after the group program). This
consultation concentrates on how the
participant is doing after the program
(repeat body composition measures, etc).

Intergenerational Programs & Policies : From Vision to
Practice on Friday, November 7, 2008 f8:00AM-4:00PM in the
Ballroom of Fortunoff Hall. The Center for
Intergenerational Policy and Practice at Dowling College and
The Long Island Intergenerational Network will be hosting
Intergenerational Programs and Policies: From Vision to
Practice. The mission of the Center for Intergenerational
Policy & Practice at Dowling College is to raise public
awareness of the inter-relatedness of the needs of all
generational groups through education, advocacy, and
practice.
Whether in the workplace or the community, in general,
relationships among generations are more important today
than ever before. As life expectancies continue to rise
dramatically, generations depend on one another for much
longer periods of time. Not only are middle-age people
providing shelter, food, clothing and educations for those
under age 25, many of these same families are caring and
providing support for relatives over age 75.
While many young people are leaving Long Island in pursuit
of affordable housing elsewhere, many older people are
leaving for southern retirement communities while other
retirees, choosing to remain here, are moving into
age-restricted communities. The unfortunate result is a
separation of the generations. These circumstances pose real
challenges to the normal balance, and urgently call for new
and creative ways to encourage generational groups to
communicate with one another, care for one another, and
support public policies that don’t divide them by age.
Intergenerational Programs and Policy: From Vision to
Practice has been designed by The Center for
Intergenerational Policy and Practice at Dowling College,
Intergenerational Strategies, and The Long Island
Intergenerational Network to bring together Long Island's
community organizations and business community to create new
intergenerational programs and promote public policies that
meet the needs of all generations.

join us as we watch nature's wonderful sky show. The meteors
from this shower originate from Comet Tempel-Tuttle and seem
to radiate from the constellation Leo. The shower extends
from Nov. 13-20 and peaks on Nov. 17. The Leonids are
frequently a rich shower that averages many meteors per
hour. Viewing will be more difficult due to the light from
the full moon (11/13) but we still should be able to see
quite a few. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and join us as we
watch and listen via radio astronomy equipment--for another
one of nature's fabulous sky shows. General admission: $5
Adults, $3 Children, Free for members. For more information
