Ongoing Event : Nutrition Class Group
Program Offered By Fitness Fusion 360
This program is an 8-week program. During
these 8 weeks, participants meet with a
Nutrition Manager Consultant three times -
one hour at the beginning of the program,
one hour during the program, and one hour at
the end of 12 weeks. Participants are asked
to keep a food log and an exercise log; they
learn how to analyze what they eat and
discover the number of calories they should
eat to achieve balance; they learn how to
budget their time and fit exercise into
their schedules; they learn ways to reduce
stress and why it is important to do so.
When participants have completed the 8
weeks, they will posses the tools needed to
be successful in long-term "fat" loss and
health. The program also includes three
individual consultations: The first
individual consultation is after the first
group meeting. This meeting concentrates on
individualizing the participants exercise
program; discussing the participant's goals
and objectives; and teaching the participant
how to use the diet analysis software. The
second individual consultation occurs after
the fourth group meeting. This consultation
focuses on how the participant is doing. The
third individual consultation occurs at week
12 (4 weeks after the group program). This
consultation concentrates on how the
participant is doing after the program
(repeat body composition measures, etc).

Smithtown Township Arts Council presents RE Inspired :
Inspiring Ecological Awareness through Art July 20 - August
8, 2008 at the Mills Pond House Gallery, 660 Route 25A, St.
James, NY. The public is invited to an opening reception
to be held Sunday, July 20 from 2-4 pm. to meet exhibiting
artists and view their work. RE Inspired called for artists
to explore the relation between humankind and the
environment through work that transformed found objects into
art or used recycled materials to convey unique
environmental messages. The exhibit includes artwork that
attempts to reclaim waste and the destruction of nature in
the beauty of art. The gallery is free and open to the
public Monday-Friday 10:00AM-5:00PM and Saturday-Sunday
12:00PM-5:00PM.
The exhibition will include an Eco to Go room where gallery
visitors are invited to create their own eco-friendly art.
The theme of recycling through art extends to our Summer
Arts classes and camp where students will learn to take
throwaways and transform them into objects of renewed
meaning and magical beauty! Art through recycling will teach
children to see potential where others see only useless
junk. Classes and camps run throughout July and August and
registration is ongoing. Call 862-6575 for a brochure.
Some of the exhibiting artists:
• Mixed media / textile artist Diane Savona's textile art is
constructed almost entirely of salvaged materials. Her Road
Cloth series is constructed using clothing found on the
streets. The gloves, shirts and umbrellas are sewn to images
of the places they were found, stitching people and place
together.
• Long Island mixed-media assemblage artist Joseph
Eschenberg works mostly with mixed media and mixed surfaces.
He fuses together paint, photography and construction
material for many of his projects commonly using wood,
steel, copper, plastic, aluminum, nuts & bolts, photos and
found objects. Joe gets inspiration and materials for his
art "On the street"
• Long Island artist Richard Hoschler creates complex
three-dimensional mixed media assemblages involving a wide
range of concepts and materials. The artist associates his
work closely with unearthed artifacts or relics echoing an
industrialized nature, creating from all types of natural,
man made and found object media which span from wood, bark
and seed casings to machine parts, metal and digital
transparencies.
• New York's Max Liboiron is a mixed media artist and
scholar who works with ideas of nature what and who gets to
count as part of the discourse of "the natural". Max grew up
on a self-sustaining farm in northern Canada. Her
understanding of sustainable personal and environmental
relationships was formed early and has been influential in
both her early studies of university-level biology and her
more topical inquiries in art and visual culture. Max
strives "to represent alternative versions of the natural
world and the complex and inextricable relationships between
people, social history, and the local environment."
