leash, under 6 feet in length may accompany you into
some areas of the park exclusive buildings, camping,
bathing, or picnic areas. You can find a list of parks

Belmont Lake State Park
Babylon, Suffolk County, New York
Belmont Lake State Park is a full service park and the
headquarters of the Long Island State Park Region.
Activities include boating, fishing, picnicking, biking,
horseback riding, hiking and cross-country skiing. The
park also has playing fields, horseshoe and basketball
courts and playgrounds. Attractions include biking, boat
rentals, bridle path, empire passport accepted, fishing,
food, hiking, nature trail pavilions, picnic tables,
playground, playing field(s), recreation programs.
Blydenburgh County Park
Smithtown, Long Island, New York
Open year round, this 627 acre park offers a wide range
of recreational opportunities including hiking,
freshwater fishing, horseback riding, a children's
playground, and camping. Rowboat rentals are available.
Activities include hiking, picnicking, camping,
freshwater fishing, rowboat rentals, bridle paths,
playground and historic trust area. There is an 1.8 acre
fenced dog playground area for dogs to play off leash.
Camp Hero State Park
Montauk Point, Long Island, New York
Camp Hero State Park in Montauk Point, New York is the
former site of Montauk Air Force Station; it offers a
beach and a place for activities such as fishing,
hiking, a bridle path, biking and cross-country skiing.
Cedar Creek Park
Seaford, Long Island, New York
With Seaman's Creek on its southern border and East Bay
beyond, and with Cedar Creek bisecting its center,
259-acre Cedar Creek Park provides a lovely setting
along with an assortment of recreational activities.
Dogs are only permitted in the enclosed run area; don't
forget to clean-up after your dog.
Christopher Morley Park
Port Washington, Long Island, New York
A beautiful 98-acre park, Christopher Morley provides
facilities for a range of athletic activities, including
swimming, basketball and baseball with an enclosed dog
run near the maintenance building.
Governor Alfred E. Smith/Sunken Meadow
Northport, Long Island, New York
Sunken Meadow State Park, located on Long Island Sound,
has a wide range of topography that sustains a variety
of flora and fauna. The three miles of beach meets tall,
glacier-formed bluffs at the west end of the shoreline.
Heckscher State Park
East Islip, Long Island, New York
Heckscher State Park has more than a million visitors a
year. Twenty miles of trails attract hikers, bicycle and
cross-country skiers. Swimmers can use the Great South
Bay or the swimming pool complex.
Hempstead Lake State Park
West Hempstead, Long Island, New York
Hempstead Lake State Park is a multi use facility.
Included are 20 tennis courts, children's playgrounds,
basketball courts, bridle trails for horse back riding,
biking and hiking trails, shaded picnic areas and a
historic hand carved wooden carousel.
Hither Hills State Park
Montauk, Long Island, New York
Hither Hills State Park offers visitors scenic picnic
areas and fireplaces, sport fishing, a sandy ocean
beach, playing fields, a playground and a 168-site
campground on the ocean.

Montauk Point State Park
Montauk, Long Island, New York
Montauk Point State Park, a heavily-wooded tundra
leading to the eastern tip of Long Island and the
historic Montauk Lighthouse, offers some of the best
surf fishing in the world. The view is unique, because,
when the water is calm, visitors can clearly see the
"race" of converging tides from the Atlantic and Block
Island Sound.
Nickerson Beach Park
Lido Beach, Long Island, New York
Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, this 121-acre park offers
the lure of beaches and waves but also provides a number
of additional opportunities for fun, including new
athletic courts, two pools, and a new playground and
skateboard facility.
Shadmoor State Park
Montauk, Long Island, New York
Ninety-nine acre Shadmoor State Park, located one
quarter-mile east of Montauk Village, features more than
2,400 feet of ocean beach accessed by two stairways.
Wantagh Park

A long, narrow 111-acre park bordered on the south by
Flat Creek with East Bay beyond, Wantagh has a wide
range of attractions, from a swimming complex to ball
fields and tennis courts to a boating marina and launch
ramp.
West Hills Park

Picturesque, well-groomed nature trails, including the
historic Walt Whitman Trail to Jayne's Hill (Long
Island's highest peak, at an elevation of 400 feet),
wind through this highly popular, mixed-deciduous
