We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity dedicated to finding loving homes for homeless cats and kittens. All donations are tax deductible. All cats and kittens have been socialized with both humans and other cats, in a nurturing and loving environment that is cage free. We use foster homes as well as simulated homes for socialization. Our cats and kittens are so special, so loving, that we have trademarked their name -True Love™ - since their love is so genuine.

Our charity is a true labor of love. We are an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of the donations go directly to feed, house or provide medical care to our cats and kittens. Not one dollar goes to pay salaries or contractors - unlike almost all other private rescue and shelters. Donations will enable us to expand our mission and save more cats. To see our loving cats and kittens available for adoption now, please visit our website www.li-cat.org, or click on the logos below visit us on Facebook or Petfinder:

Long Island Greyhound Transfer (LIGHT) Animal Rescue - Long Island, New York Long Island Browser Premier Online Business Directory of Long Island New York Long Island Greyhound Transfer (LIGHT)

Sometime in 1995, after seeing a National Geographic special called "Racing for their Lives," a story about the plight of the racing GreyHound, six people from the community gathered around a kitchen table and started L.I.G.H.T. (Long Island GreyHound Transfer.) We are the first Long Island based 501 (c) (3) non-profit, all-volunteer run GreyHound rescue organization.

Since that time, we have been featured in several newspaper articles, as well as appearing on Long Island CH.12 'The Family Pet', the Martha Stewart Living Show, National Geographic Today, the Long Island Ducks, the New York Mets, Broadway Barks and various other local TV and radio stations. Throughout each year we also attend several community fairs and festivals, school assemblies, Boy & Girl Scout Troop's Meetings, all to alert and educate the public about the plight of the GreyHound once their 'racing days' are over with.

Each year over thirty thousand GreyHounds nationwide, are 'put down' due to lack of available homes. We have rescued and placed (in 'forever homes') over twelve hundred GreyHounds since our beginning. We still have a long way to go. We always need donations for medical and operational costs. All contributions to L.I.G.H.T. are tax deductable.

The League For Animal Protection - Long Island, New York Long Island Browser Premier Online Business Directory of Long Island New York The League For Animal Protection

The League for Animal Protection of Huntington, Inc. (LAP) is an all volunteer, non-profit organization established in 1973 and dedicated to the rescue, care and rehabilitation of stray, abandoned and abused animals in Huntington Township . Our goal is to continue this crucial work on behalf of all of the animals that have passed through our doors. In 1982 under an agreement with the Town of Huntington, the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter was built. This refuge without cages, which is a temporary home to kittens and cats is managed and staffed by dedicated volunteers and supported solely by contributions to the League. All of our felines are vet checked, FELV and FIV tested, inoculated and spayed or neutered before being placed for adoption. Volunteers from LAP assist the Town of Huntington in their dog placement program. The volunteers evaluate, exercise, socialize, train and groom the dogs housed in the shelter. Some dogs are placed in foster care until they are able to find a permanent home. Most importantly, they are given a LAP volunteer’s love and attention. Our primary goal is to place an animal in a PERMANENT home. LAP carefully screens all potential adopters and follows up to ensure that both owner and pet are adapting well. We maintain a lifelong commitment to our companion animals.
