"Godfather's of the electric church", "Masters of the Sacred Steel": These are just a few names which describe Calvin Cooke, Chuck Cambpell, Darick Campbell and Aubrey Ghent a/k/a The Slide Brothers. The joyous music these legendary artists create extends far beyond scared steel to encompass blues, rock and soul all celebrated with a sound that is uniquely their own. From the House of God Church to the House of Blues, this iconic group of pedal steel forefathers continue to produce amazing music and inspire players worldwide.
The Slide Brothers were recently featured as part of the Experience Hendrix Tour, thrilling sold out audiences across the U.S. and Canada with their interpretations of such Hendrix signature songs as "Purple Haze" and "Foxey Lady". Their acclaimed performances have won fans who had never witnessed the infectious appeal of the sacred steel. Their enthusiastic reactions came as no surprise to Robert Randolph. "My goal is to open the door for people in the same way that musical doors have been opened for me" explains Randolph. "I want to take this musical history and make it relevant to give people a better idea of who we are and where this tradition came from."
Together with co-producers Robert Randolph and John McDermott (Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood), The Slide Brothers will be releasing their debut disc January 15, 2013 on Concord Records. The band will also be touring nationwide in the new year to support this long awaited collection of Sacred Steel at its finest.
The album features 11 songs which showcase some of the finest electric slide guitar playing heard today. The album includes versions of the Allman Brothers "Don't Keep Me Wondering", superb interpretation" as well as "Motherless Children". The album features such special guests as Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Blind Boys Of Alabama, Shemekia Copleand, Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble) and Billy Cox (Jimi Hendrix Band Of Gypsys). |
