5K Sarcoidosis Awareness in Centereach, New York, is a Long Island road race and benefit run for sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ in the body. What Is Sarcoidosis?
The disease causes heightened immunity, which means that a person's immune system, which normally protects the body from infection and disease, overreacts, resulting in damage to the body's own tissues. There is no known cause or cure.
How to Register
The cost for the 5K is $20 if you register by July 24, 2013. After that, it's $25 up until the day before the race. On race day, the cost is $35.00. It's a small price to pay to help fight this disease. The one-mile walk is free, and all walkers receive a medal. Register online at Island Running.
