The Hampton Synagogue will be hosting Rabbi Chaim Druckman, recipient of the prestigious 2012 Israel Prize Award for a lifetime achievement in education and leadership of the Special Conversion Court. He is the Director of the International Bnei Akiva movement and Center for the Bnei Akiva Schools. Elected to the Knesset in 1977, he was later appointed as Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, and in 1990, he was appointed as Director of State Conversion Authority. Rabbi Druckman will be addressing the congergation at 11:00am. Cantor Netanel Hershtik and The Hampton Synagogue choir, Izhak Haimov, conductor, will be leading Shabbat services at 8:45AM, chanting compositions by the late Cantor Yossele Rosenblatt. Cantor Rosenblatt was born in Ukraine on May 9, 1882. A scion of a long line of cantors, he was quickly lauded as a child prodigy. After beginning his career as a cantor in Hungary and Germany, he moved to Harlem, NY, to take a position at the Ohab Zedek Congregation. Living during cantorial music's "golden age" with his unique singing styles and original compositions, he was crowned as the "King of Cantors". Immediately following afternoon services at 7:30PM, there will be a Seudah Shlishit Forum with Charlie Bernhaut, founder of Cantors World, an organization dedicated to promoting interest in traditional cantorial music. Upon the conclusion of Shabbat, there will be a screening of original footage of Cantor Yossele Rosenblatt, presented by Charlie Bernhaut. Sunday 10:00AM there will be a presentation of Jewish Comedy by Charlie Bernhaut. |
