Tribute to Jazz Piano - Long Island's Annual Premier Jazz Piano Fall Event with Five Town College Piano Greats and Renown Jazz Pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs at the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center in Dix Hills, Long Island, New York.
The Tribute to Jazz Piano is the premier jazz piano event on Long Island. Held each fall, it features top Five Towns College pianists from around the country and the world. The second half of the show presents a leading jazz pianist. This year, we present one of the music industry's most respected and talented musical collaborators – pianist, composer, arranger and producer Onaje Allan Gumbs. In 1971, a gig with master guitarist Kenny Burrell at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit led to recording and sideman gigs with such artists as Norman Connors, Buster Williams, Cecil McBee, Betty Carter and Nat Adderley. He spent 2 years as pianist, composer, and arranger in the band led by the late, great trumpeter Woody Shaw. He has spent the last 40 years playing, arranging, composing and producing with jazz greats live, on recording and for films. Join us for this most extraordinary evening for lovers of piano! Made possible by the Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs. |
