The Rising Stars Piano Series Presents Tanya Gabrielian at The Southampton Cultural Center.
The 10th Anniversary Season opens with Pianofest guest artist Tanya Gabrielian: Bach French Suite No. 2, Haydn Sonata in E-flat Major, Hob XIV/49, Rachmaninov Three Etudes-Tableaux Op. 33, Gounod-Liszt Waltz from Faust. Sponsored by The Carr Charitable Trust.
Hailed by the London Times as "a pianist of powerful physical and imaginative muscle" Tanya Gabrielian combines emotional vulnerability with commanding strength, captivating audiences worldwide with her gripping performances. She has performed in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia, in venues including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, Sydney Opera House, Salle Cortot in Paris, Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago. Concerti performances include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Her debut CD, Kaleidoscope, was released in November 2010.
As founder of the "Art for Activism" initiative, Tanya Gabrielian is dedicated to promoting the artist as activist through art. Projects have included an installation with the artist Fran Bull for the exhibit In Flanders Field: A Meditation on War, and recitals featuring composers with mental illnesses, highlighting the stigma around mental health issues. Ms. Gabrielian has also founded a biweekly interactive performance series for patients at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. She was awarded the 2011 McGraw-Hill Robert Sherman Award for Music Education and Community Outreach for her work. |
