Description: |
Why were there no great women composers? (or were there?) Are women less talented than men as composers? Why don't we hear music by women composers? Enjoy a unique, fascinating, and upbeat program of works by 19th and early 20th century European composers, including Clara Schumann, distinguished pianist and wife of Robert Schumann; Fanny Mendelssohn, sister of Felix Mendelssohn; Teresa Carreno, Venezuelan piano virtuoso; Cecile Chaminade, French pianist; and American ragtime composers reminiscent of Scott Joplin from the early and mid 20th century, including Adaline Shepherd, May Aufderheide, and Muriel Pollock. Dr. Judith Alstadter will play selections and include brief commentary on the lives and works of these musicians. Not for women only, everyone welcome to attend and enjoy. Dr. Judith Alstadter is a concert pianist, music educator, lecturer and recording artist. |
