Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers Concert Live Performance at The YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts of the Great South Bay YMCA.
Sultry chanteuse Lavay Smith evokes a sensuous era of glamorous jazz divas and sexy pinups while adding a modern, feminist twist all her own. Whether singing her own compositions or drawing on a large repertoire of classics, Lavay and her all-star eight-piece band, the Red Hot Skillet Lickers (whose members have performed and/or recorded with Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat "King" Cole, Frank Sinatra, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles, and more), bake up an instant recipe for good times.
Since first performing together in 1989, Smith and her band have garnered praise from important publications, including Jazz Times, Blues Revue, JAZZIZ Magazine, The New York Press, and Living Blues. World-famous celebrities have jumped on the Lavay Smith bandwagon as well. Johnny Otis has declared, "Lavay is wonderful! She and her band are a breath of fresh air." Of Smith's debut album One Hour Mama (1996), Dan Aykroyd said: "This CD is guaranteed to make you feel better." Even President Bill Clinton has seen the light, proclaiming, "I love this band - they're great!" Having recently released her latest disc, titled Miss Smith to You, in 2009, Smith's red-hot stage presence continues to light up stages all over the world. |
