Monday Michiru: Tokyo born and American raised songster Monday Michiru is considered one of the pioneers of the Japanese acid jazz movement in the 90s and has worked with a variety of musicians from the sectors of jazz, latin, funk, soul, hip hop, underground club movements, etc. that has helped to create a unique musical style with a recording career that this year welcomes its 20th anniversary since the release of her solo debut. She has toured extensively throughout Europe, U.S. and Asia with her solo projects, performing at notable festivals and clubs such as North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz, Jak Jazz, Blue Notes in Japan and NYC, etc., and has been a resident of the North Fork area with her husband, jazz trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, for over 10 years. The cover picture of her latest and 16th solo release, "Don't Disturb This Groove," just released in 2011, depicts the wine storage space utilized by Peconic Bay Winery. She is currently working on her latest project for American label Adventure Records, to be released sometime this summer. |
