Description: |
Edgar Degas took great inspiration in the works of Rembrandt. As a young artist, Degas embarked on a trip to Italy to study classical sculpture and Renaissance painting. There he saw a number of prints by Rembrandt and later on developed his own etching techniques. The illustrated presentation will focus on Rembrandt's influence on the art of Degas. We will study a series of self-portraits of the two artists when they were both starting out on their careers. The presentation will serve as an introduction to an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on the same subject. |
