In this seminar discover another way to go green in the city: Green roofs. Green roof development involves the creation of a contained green space on top of a human-made structure. Learn about what makes up of a green roof, the different layers and materials involved like water proofing, drainage, growing media and of course the plants, learn about the different types of green roofs and all the great environmental, economic and social public and private advantages of green roofs. Public and private benefits like aesthetic improvement, waste diversion, storm water management, noise pollution reduction, improvement or air quality, and reduction of urban heat island effect will be explained. Hear about some really interesting successful green roof projects in North America and especially in New York. Amy Norquist, CEO and founder of Greensulate, a leading green roof company that designs, installs and maintains Green Roof Systems for residential, commercial and industrial projects will be giving the seminar. Before founding Greensulate, she was the Deputy Director of the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries overseeing research and development efforts on major green and sustainable building initiatives.
