Description: |
Holocaust Remembrance Day Lecture with Annie Bleibergs at Merrick Golf Course Clubhouse in Merrick, Long Island, New York.
Annie Bleibergs was born in Oleszye, Poland and when the Germans occupied Poland in 1939, she and her family were forced into a ghetto. When the ghetto was liquidated, the Bleibergs were deported to the Belzec death camp. En route to Belzec, Annie's father threw her from their train hoping she would survive and escape. Annie survived the fall and lived in hiding until she was betrayed by a former classmate. She was arrested and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. After the war, Annie came to the United States and settled in the Bronx. She remains active in a variety of Jewish organizations and continues to speak to students, active-duty military personnel, and educators on her Holocaust experiences. |
