Led by Rabbi Jan Uhrbach, High Holiday services at The Conservative Synagogue of the Hamptons are joyful, beautiful, relevant, transformative and participatory, with lots of congregational singing. This year we are thrilled to welcome JTS rabbinical student Michael Summa, who will join Rabbi Uhrbach on the bimah. If you are used to Conservative services, you will find the liturgy and many of the melodies to be very familiar. If you are used to a Reform or Reconstructionist Service - or if you are not used to services at all - you will be amazed at how easy it is to find your way, feel at home, and really be engaged. Whatever your past experience, we think you will find our services and our community to be a breath of fresh ocean air.
At the risk of tooting our own shofar, every year first-time attendees tell us that they have never found services so inspiring, so meaningful, and so intellectually, emotionally and spiritually rich.
We use the highly acclaimed Machzor Lev Shalem, the Conservative movement's rich new High Holy Day prayerbook, which our own Rabbi Jan Uhrbach helped author. The prayerbook has the full Hebrew text found in most Conservative and Orthodox synagogues, but it also includes many classical prayers from non-Ashkenazic Jewish traditions - from Sephardic Jewry, the land of Israel, Italy, Yemen, and others.
The translation is completely new, and everything chanted or read aloud is fully transliterated on the page. Each page also contains explanatory comments, inspirational readings, and a wealth of poetry. Prayerbooks can be dedicated in honor or memory of a loved one for $36 each.
The Conservative Synagogue of the Hamptons membership includes High Holy Day seats for 1 adult (individual/single parent membership) or 2 adults (all other membership categories) and children through college age. Extra seats for guests are available. Please don't forget to reserve.
Seats for guests and non-members for Rosh Hashanah and/or Yom Kippur are available for $175. Children under 18 living at home are welcome at no charge. You can pay by check, or through our website by credit card.
Our Policies
Often we are asked whether we offer reciprocity to members of other synagogues. We hope you’ll understand why we can't. Because we are in a resort destination, at least 75 percent of our members and High Holy Day attendees also belong to at least one other synagogue. Offering reciprocity to everyone who belongs to another synagogue would bankrupt us overnight. Offering reciprocity only to some is just unfair. For similar reasons, we can' pro-rate seats if you plan to come for only part of the holiday. |
