Spend a Sunday with your kids discovering new ways to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. This year, Hanukkah is coming to families where they are. Join Jewish Without Walls (JWOW)and Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI) inside Smith Haven Mall, in front of Macy's for an exciting and engaging Hanukkah program for the entire family. This year, Hanukkah is coming to families where they shop, with activities including Hanukkah cookie decorating, drumming, olive oil tasting, crafts, face painting and more.
Activities at Hands-on Hanukkah will include a dreidel origami station, where preschool and school-aged children will have the opportunity to create their own dreidels from origami paper, while learning about the game of dreidel, and the meaning of the Hebrew letters used on each side. There will also be Hanukkah crafts, musical entertainment, and free raffles and prizes for the entire family. Another activity will be for children to decorate their own Color-me Calendar, a dynamic activity-centered calendar that introduces children and their parents to the symbols and story of Hanukkah.
The Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI)—is an independent, national, trans-denominational organization reaching out to unengaged and intermarried Jewish families, and helping the organized Jewish community better welcome them in. JOI conducts research, runs programs, and serves as a national training institution and network for outreach professionals, guiding and supporting innovative outreach in communities throughout North America.
Jewish Without Walls (JWOW) is a grassroots independent venture to build vibrant Jewish communities. The mission of Jewish Without Walls is to create meaningful and joyful opportunities for Jews to connect across denominations, to feel part of a vibrant, warm and caring Jewish community, and to inspire Jewish leadership and engagement. |
