Merrick Makes Music Annual Summer Outdoor Concert at the North Merrick Public Library on Long Island, New York. Come see the collection of great musicians invited to perform at this annual concert.
The North Merrick Public Library is pleased to host, for the sixth consecutive year, our own Merrick students in a musical salute to our neighborhood. The Town of Hempstead, through the auspices of Councilwoman Angie Cullin, will provide the Showmobile for this evening's outdoor performance. This year's participants are representative of our district's excellent music program, featuring:
The North Merrick Jazz Band, under the direction of Ms. Peggy Rakas and Mr. Andrew Brunson, consists of forty of the finest instrumentalists in North Merrick. Selections will include Sonny Stitt’s Blues Walk, Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon Man and Hey Jude by the Beatles.
Word of Mouth is Merrick Avenue’s highly select a cappella vocal group. It is an auditioned ensemble that performs all year long at both school concerts and in the community. Word of Mouth sings in four part or more harmony, and will be entertaining you with songs from the classic rock era to the disco era, under the direction of Dana Brandwein, Choral Director.
The Calhoun-Mepham Chamber Orchestra is made up of orchestra students from both Calhoun and Mepham High Schools. They perform a wide variety of music, from classical to folk to pop.
The Sanford H. Calhoun High School Jazz Band is a select group made up of the finest musicians in grades 9-12. The band competes throughout the east coast, including the “Festival Disney” competition in Orlando, Florida. This year’s program will feature a variety of jazz standards and styles, spotlighting two singers from the Calhoun Choir Program in addition to a dedication to the late Dave Brubeck. The Jazz Band is under the direction of Ed Tumminelli. |
