Weekend Boat Festival at The Bayles Boat Shop in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York.
Displays of traditional boats will include an original restored seaford skiff, a replica of a Hudson River barge boat, and a Beetlecat boat, along with the builders and restorers of these traditional vessels. The Bayles Boat Shop will be open to visitors, where you can learn about this all-volunteer effort in building and restoring wooden boats.
About Bayles Boat Shop
The wood boat connects us to our roots and its craftsmanship should not be lost. The Bayles Boat Shop, a post and beam construction created by volunteers working together since 2006, is complete. It will keep Port Jefferson's maritime boat building heritage alive through active small-boat building and restoration projects. Community Heritage Programming will start this fall with shop apprenticeship courses and new Family Boat Building projects. |
