The St. James Model Railroad Club proudly displays their 38' x 48' Lionel train layout, the result of 32 years of continuing improvements, represents Railroading from the Age of Steam to Present Day with many freight and passenger trains running simultaneously in a scenic, imaginative setting. Featured will be many brightly illuminated, scratch-built structures, animated accessories, bustling towns, a colorful circus and amusement park, and much more. Our improved layout guarantees that you will see more trains presented in a detailed, realistic setting. Children of all ages will enjoy the sights and sounds of this truly impressive display.
Please note: The St. James Model Railroad club train display is not handicap accessible.
The Saint James Model Railroad Club was founded in 1983. Originally located in what was known as the Flatiron Building in St. James across from the oldest, still existing, railroad station on Long Island. Unfortunately, 6 months later, the building was sold and the club was asked to vacate. Through the efforts made by the town officials, and the cooperation of the Smithtown Arts Council, the Saint James Model Railroad Club was granted a home in the basement of the historic Mills Pond House. In January 1984, the club moved all of its lumber, track and layout materials to its present location.
The St. James Model Railroad Club is a 38' x 48' O gauge model train layout. The layout is the results of 30 years of continuing improvements, it represents railroading from the age of steam to present day with many freight and passenger trains running simultaneoulsy in a scenic, imaginative setting. Featured are many brightly illuminated, scratch-built structures, animated accessories, bustling towns, a busy seaport and much more.
The Club meets every Wednesday night at 8:00PM in the basement of the Mills Pond House. A Holiday Open House is held every year on the first weekend of December. Additional open houses are sometimes held as well. The Club will run private shows, as a service, for non-profit, public service organizations. Arrangements for private shows must be made in advance, on an individal basis, only during times when the layout is not undergoing significant modifications. |
