Description: Torture Awareness Month Presentation: Healing A Culture of Torture at the Social Hall of Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock Manhasset, Long Island, New York. Co-Sponsored by the Social Justice Committee and Shelter Rock Forum of UUCSR (Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock).

In observance of Torture Awareness Month, the Social Justice Committee and the Shelter Rock Forum of the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock, 48 Shelter Rock Road, Manhasset, NY will present "Ending a Culture of Torture" on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 7:30PM.

The program will include the movie, "Torture in Our Own Back Yard" followed by a panel of representatives of the faith and advocacy communities and formerly incarcerated individuals who were held in solitary confinement.

Panelists include: Laura Markle Downton, M.Div., Director of U.S. Prisons Policy & Program, National Religious Campaign Against Torture; Five Mualimm-Ak, Civil Rights Advocate/Organizer, End the New Jim Crow; Tyrell Muhammad, Correctional Association of New York; Nathan Vogel, Legislative Counsel, NY Civil Liberties Union; and Megan Crowe-Rothstein, Director of Social Work, Urban Justice Center Mental Health Project. Q&A and refreshments will follow.

Jason Starr, Director, Nassau County chapter, NYCLU will moderate the panel. Complete details are on the attached flyer.
