Description: |
Purim at Congregation Beth-El Massapequa in Massapequa, Long Island, New York.
Saturday night, February 23, starting at 7:00PM, we shall once again lift our graggers in repudiation of Haman and offer cheers in honor of Esther and Mordechai. This energetic activity is, of course, in honor of our annual celebration of the festival of Purim. We shall read the Megillah of Esther and then - as a bonus - the students of our religious school will present a play called "Shushan Street". The inside word is that any number of students are jockeying for the right to take the role of Elmo. Who will play Big Bird is completely unknown at this time. Anyway, y'all come and find out for yourselves. Hamantaschen and a mood of levity appropriate to Purim will be enjoyed after the Megillah reading and the big show.
Purim is about masks and hiding and deception and secrets. That is why everyone is encouraged to appear in a costume. It's so hard to be yourself - one night a year why not be someone else?
