Did you know that bay scallops have eyes and that they can swim?
Scallop Eyes and Clam Feet: An Up Close Shellfish Adventure at the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center (SoFo) with John "Barley" Dunne, Director, East Hampton Town Shellfish Hatchery.
How about the fact that clams have feet, or that clams and oysters change gender over the course of their lives? During this presentation, John "Barley" Dunne will discuss the biology and ecological importance of local shellfish, including the hard clam, eastern oyster, and bay scallop. You'll watch scallops swim, see their blue eyes, and witness clams siphoning their food from algae-rich water. You'll also learn the anatomy, through dissection, of our important local shellfish. |
