Sail The Sound For Deafness presented by The Mill Neck Family of Organizations. Various other organizations will co-host the event such as Oakcliff Sailing, The WaterFront Center, Oyster Bay Marine Center, the North Oyster Bay Baymen's Association, Sagamore Yacht Club, Sweet Tomato.
The Regatta will raise funds to benefit the Mill Neck Family of Organizations, a group of organizations serving people who are Deaf and/or have other special communication needs, locally, nationally and around the world. Programs include Deaf education, early childhood education for children with speech and language delays, services for Deaf adults, audiology and sign language interpreter services.
Oakcliff Sailing is making their fleet available for a fun and elegant race around Oyster Bay and onto the Sound. The Regatta is expected to draw sailing enthusiasts from across the area. Sailors are welcome to participate with their own yachts as well. Spectators are invited to watch from The WaterFront Center's showpiece Christeen, the oldest oyster sloop in North America, for a front row seat to view some of the most exquisite sailing yachts of all time.
"It is wonderful when community groups join together to support a cause. Every organization which is participating has some interaction with people who are Deaf and/or have other special communication needs" stated Dawn Riley, Executive Director of Oakcliff Sailing. "It just makes sound sense".
A gala soiree following the Regatta will take place at the:
Mill Neck Manor House
40 Frost Mill Road
Mill Neck NY 11765
This spectacular Tudor Revival mansion, overlooking the bay atop the 86-acre former estate of the Dodge family, is truly a Gold Coast treasure and a perfect site for an after-party of classic sailing yachtsmen and women. |
