Description: |
The Friends of Connetquot, will host Birding and Breakfast. What better way to "Flirt With Fall" than to join us at this beautiful historic preserve, and discover the birds of Connetquot which The Audubon Society has designated as an Important Bird Area. Program: Meet in the main house at Connetquot Preserve. While enjoying a continental breakfast provided by Friends of Connetquot view a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating helpful bird identification techniques. After breakfast, walk the trails with knowledgeable guides from Great South Bay Audubon in search of birds that migrate through or nest in the Preserve, such as woodpeckers, thrushes, finches, ospreys, and more. Reservations required: Please contact Connetquot River State Park Preserve at 631-581-1072 to register. Registration fee is $4.00 plus $8.00 parking fee (free with Empire Pass). To be held at, Connetquot River State Park and Preserve, Sunrise Highway, Oakdale.
Connetquot River State Park Preserve maintains 3,473 acres of land and water for the protection and propagation of game birds, fish and animals. Deer and waterfowl are numerous, rare nesting birds, including the osprey, are present and there are numerous rare plants, such as trailing arbutus and pyxie moss in their natural habitats. The preserve also has 50 miles of hiking, horseback riding, cross-country ski and nature trails, as well as fishing (by permit only) on the Connetquot River. |
