The focus of this workshop will be the various aspects of Plein Air painting and how it relates to creating works of art. Vadnais will demonstrate effective ways to manage the difficulty of painting outdoors under changing light and weather conditions.
Each morning, students will develop a series of sketches and studies that will be used as source material for a more developed painting. Students will learn an effective method of making studies outside.
They will work on a light ground through defined stages including:
1 Line drawing
2 Color washes
3 Solid painting
4 Accents and details
Vadnais will also explain the importance of, and difference between the composition sketch, the color study, and the study proper.
In the afternoons, in the studio, the outdoor work will be used to develop a picture. Students will learn:
- How to edit and scale up their sketches and studies
- How to make a monochrome under painting
- How to apply color using glazes, scumbles and broken color
This workshop will give a thorough overview of landscape painting and will provide students with a versatile set of tools to continue developing their own personal vision of the landscape. The course is suitable for beginners as well as advanced students. Both oil and acrylic painters are welcome. |
