Spring Break Project Weeklong Environmental Science
Overnight Camp April 17-22, 2011 (Earth Day) at the Dorothy
P. Flint 4-H Camp, Riverhead, NY. The Spring Break
Project, a weeklong environmental science overnight camp,
will begin its first year of operation this spring! The
program is being offered to students aged 12-15 years old.
The Spring Break Project will offer students the opportunity
to work with environmentalists and conservationists from
Cornell Cooperative Extension to learn about, and explore,
the outdoors. During the first two days of the program,
instructors will guide students through an exploration of
the woodlands while teaching the fundamentals of ecology.
Campers will work in small groups to use the tools they
learn to do research projects about the local environment.
Instructors serve as mentors during this fun process of
scientific inquiry. Teamwork, fun and ecology-based
learning. Campers will also have the opportunity to
participate in a variety of activities such as ropes
courses, art projects, team sports, and geo caching events.
Groups will present their research findings to a panel of
guest scientists. Family members are welcome to join us for
the Friday night presentations and award banquet. All
student participants will receive certificates of completion
and the best project will receive an award. Creating change
in society always begins with education, and education
always begins with youth. The Spring Break Project will
